Originally built as a hospital in the early 1920s, the Christopher House has a rich history. It began as St. Anthony’s Hospital, built by prominent Seattle architects, the Beezer Brothers. For forty-four years the hospital was operated by the sisters of St. Joseph of Peace until it was reconstructed as the Christopher House, an apartment complex for the elderly. Within the cornerstone of the five-story building still lies buried a written history of the hospital, a chronicle of the sisters of St. Joseph, and the city of Wenatchee.
The Christopher House opened its doors in 1988 as a Board and Care Home and currently houses (including Red Brick Manor) up to 77 residents. As of July 2010 the Christopher House is under new ownership, Christopher House, LLC. Several changes have been made both to the physical building and the overall atmosphere. The Christopher House provides a home-like environment for those with medical needs, developmental disabilities and, to a limited extent, behavioral challenges.
